The Roxborough Village Parks, Open Space, and Recreation Master Plan serves as the guiding document for Roxborough Village community. The primary purpose of developing the Master Plan was to outline the vision for the open space, parks and other areas that are within the community but the effort evolved into a broader communication effort to increase community participation, transparency and ongoing involvement in the community.
The Master Plan intends to bring about tangible change through four major themes: ENHANCE, CONNECT, REINVIGORATE, and IMPLEMENT – which build on the existing character of Roxborough Village while setting a course for the future. Each of the themes work together to form a cohesive, long-term vision for the community.
The desire to increase communication and involvement pushed the Livable Cities Studio to reconsider traditional master plan methods and approaches. In additional to preparing an overall Park, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan, the process emphasized communication to increase participation, engagement, and allow the plan to establish an ongoing dialogue that would continue long after the plan was adopted.
The Master Plan breaks created a new model by offering an engaging interactive web platform where the community can stay actively involved. Created as an online living document, the web-based platform allows residents stay informed and monitor progress as the plan transitions from vision to implementation.
