Denver Police Department District 5

Denver, Colorado

Denver Police Department District 5 is in the Montbello neighborhood of Denver, in between a wide swath of light industrial uses and a robust and diverse residential neighborhood. Denver Police hopes to create a new public space outside of their District 5 building, that can serve the Montbello and Stapleton neighborhoods by being a safe, comfortable, and resource-forward destination. After extensive research and analysis of the surrounding neighborhood and demographic contexts, the goal is to create a unique space for nearby employees and residents that stands apart from the multitude of surrounding traditional community centers (i.e. recreation centers, schools, and places of worship).
Livable Cities Studio is providing landscape architecture services, working alongside Handprint Architecture who is redesigning the interior of the District 5 building. LCS’s services include programming and concept design all the way through to construction administration. Livable Cities’ focus is on the entire exterior of the building, ensuring that the future designed plaza fits seamlessly into a modern, beautiful, and user-friendly police station and community center experience.
