We’re excited to see the community-led mural complete at Russell Square Park! The community driven piece by local artist Lauri Keener was recently completed as the final touch on the newly renovated park. Lauri worked closely with an amazing group of leaders from Youth Advisory Council to design and paint the community mural.

The park’s renovation is the culmination of a multi-year community process that began in 2016, when the MY Outdoor Colorado Coalition in the Cole Neighborhood received the Inspire Planning grant. Though 74% of Cole residents live within ¼ mile of a park or open space, the neighborhood parks are largely underused.

Livable Cities Studio worked with the community, the Coalition, and Denver Parks and Recreation to re-envision the park as a place to reconnect with nature through play features, an outdoor classroom, a multi-use basketball court, picnic areas, and public art. New amenities nestled beneath a mature tree canopy create a welcoming space for residents to stroll and gather daily.

A huge thank you to The Unfound Door for capturing Russell Square Park earlier this year!
